Couponing 101: Shopping at CVS
Drugstores are a HUGE way to save money, but they are not for the "coupon virgin"! You can stack coupons, use catalina's, and roll them into other deals which can be confusing for a new coupon user. I'll try to make it as easy to understand as possible. CVS accepts manufacturer coupons, but they do NOT double them. CVS offers something called "Extra Care Bucks" on items, otherwise known in the blog world as "ECB's". If you buy an item with an ECB, a catalina will print at the register for the specified $$ amount off your next transaction. Here's an example:
Suave Body Wash $2.00
$1 ECB wyb 1~Limit 2
$.50/1 Suave Body Wash SS 2/26
= $.50 after coupon/ECB
The first line of this matchup is the product and price. The second line states "wyb 1" which means you will get a $1 ECB at the checkout when you buy one body wash. "Limit 2" means that you can only do this deal twice. After the 2nd time, an ECB will NOT print at the register. Line 3 is the coupon available to use on this item. The 4th line is the final price when you deduct the coupon and give yourself the credit for the ECB. Here's an example of "rolling" an ECB:
Suave Body Wash $2.00
$1 ECB wyb 1~Limit 2
$.50/1 Suave Body Wash SS 2/26
= $.50 after coupon/ECB
**So, the product is $2, give them your $.50 coupon, pay $1.50 for the product. Then they will give you a catalina coupon good on your next purchase for $1**
Twix Single Candy Bar $1.00
$.25 ECB wyb 1~Limit 1
= $.75 after ECB
**Tell the cashier you want to do 2 transactions. Do the transaction above first. The total for the Twix bar will be $1, but you're going to pay for it with your $1 ECB from the Suave Body Wash. Then you will get back a $.25 ECB to use on another transaction or save it until next week.**
You can "roll" ECB's like this, but you cannot roll like ECB's....meaning if you buy one Suave Body Wash, you cannot use the ECB you got for your previously purchased body wash to pay for the next one. You must use ECB's on different items. To get in on these deals, you will need an "Extra Care Card". It is free to get one, just ask a cashier and put it on your keychain. You can also purchase a "Green Bag Tag" at the register for $1 and then attach it to your reusable shopping bag. Each time you shop, have them scan the Green Bag Tag. After 4 scans, you will get a $1 ECB for using your own bag. You will also see the "Magic Coupon Machine" or the red price scanner. Scan your Extra Care Card here to get CVS store coupons. You can combine a store coupon with a manufacturer coupon.
